DO I NEED TO LIVE IN PIEDMONT TO REGISTER?

No, PBSF is open to all children.

DO KIDS NEED PREVIOUS BASEBALL OR SOFTBALL EXPERIENCE TO REGISTER?

PBSF is open to all ability levels. Many kids in the league are new to baseball and softball. This is an opportunity to learn the sport, be active and be a part of the baseball and softball community. Our coaches are committed to making this a good experience for all children and everyone will get a chance to play regardless of ability.

WHEN IS THE SEASON?

PBSF operates two seasons:

  • Fall Ball runs Sept-Oct

  • Spring Season runs Feb-May

CAN MY CHILD PLAY WITH HIS/HER FRIEND?

Friend requests are accepted for Shetland baseball and 6u softball. Every effort is made to put players on teams with their friends, though this is not always possible. For other divisions, we hold assessments in an effort to balance the skill levels of the teams.  Because of this, while families may make friend requests, we will typically be unable to honor them.

WILL KIDS GET EQUAL PLAYING TIME?

Baseball: Players get equal playing time in Shetland, Pinto and Mustang. In Bronco and Pony, playing time is based on effort and ability.

Softball: Players get equal playing time in 6u and 8u. At 10u and 12u/14u, players begin to specialize in positions and playing time is based on effort (including attendance at practices) and ability.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED?

Required:

  • Glove

  • Batting Helmet

  • Uniform (jersey, pants, belt, socks, hat) included with registration fees

Optional:

  • Bat

  • Batting Gloves

  • Cleats/Turf shoes

Check with your coach or commissioner on bat regulations - not all bats are allowed in all divisions.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF PARENTS?

Parents are expected to abide by the PBSF Code of Conduct.  We ask that all parents familiarize themselves with Positive Coaching Alliance and positively support all players by cheering for them, but refraining from shouting instructions or otherwise coaching from the stands.  As a league of volunteers, we hope all families will choose to volunteer their time in some way (as an assistant coach, by providing snacks, by taking photographs and writing up game reports, by preparing the field for games, or by helping out in any way to keep our league going!).

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DO THE COACHES HAVE?

Parent coaches trained in baseball skills, health and safety, and Positive Coaching Alliance.

WHAT RULES DOES THE LEAGUE FOLLOW?

PBSF baseball follows PONY rules. PBSF Softball follows USA Softball rules.

I MISSED THE PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT. WHERE CAN I GET THAT INFORMATION?

The presentation can be viewed here.

WHERE ARE THE FIELDS?

PBSF uses Beach Field, Witter Field, Coaches Field and Hampton Field in Piedmont, CA. Softball games are also held in Oakland, typically at Owen Jones and Marshall fields. Our Mustang, Bronco, and Pony divisions also play games in Orinda and Moraga.
